Challenges for Health 2.0 Users

Monday December 12, 2011

Challenges for health 2.0 on social media are mostly related to conceptualizing the table based application and make it effective in managing patients without the need for them to revisit the hospital after major surgeries. In addition to this, it is a challenge to provide answers to all the health related question patients have about diseases and treatments.

Medical records are a very sensitive and important aspect of medical practices. Another Health 2.0 challenge is to develop an innovative means of ensuring documentation and management of patient databases which is supported by Web 2.0. Health 2.0 was developed to combine more than two Departments of Health and Human Service. This involved documentation of disease condition, topic and location of the case. Therefore, Health 2.0 was developed into an application which incorporates data feeds from numerous social media sources and health care facilities. This innovation facilitates user-friendly interface and promotes communication between medical personnel and patients.

Promoting better access to healthcare information is one of the greatest challenges for Health 2.0. This is why there have to be innovative ideas of incorporating pharmaceutical information and database of drug store chains into Health 2.0. This is important to ensure that nurses, doctors, pharmacists and patients can know where to get their medication. There are 7,760 drugstores in all 50 states in the U.S, and incorporating them into Health 2.0 is one of the biggest challenges.

Cancer is one of the most deadly health problems faced by people today. Health 2.0 also faces the challenge of making healthcare for cancer more accessible. Among other chronic diseases and disorders, cancer is one that needs stricter monitoring and constant medical attention. Health 2.0 has to be able to provide an innovative means of assisting cancer patients. This means saving them from the need to wait on hold lists for too long and to avoid stress of revisiting the hospital too soon. Through self monitoring with Health 2.0, cancer patients should be able to get instant treatments and medical attention.

Health 2.0 also has plans to go viral to improve health IOM-NAE Health Data Collegiate as a challenge. The Institute of Medicine (IOM) and National Academy of Engineering have collaborated to ensure that setbacks with the Health 2.0 are overcome successfully. The aim is to make it an application which is secure for all users. Patients using Health 2.0 on social media will have access to their medical history and they will be able to share it without fear of being victims in any way. Their data will be protected on social media. Additionally, it is a challenge to protect health care providers and pharmaceutical companies using social media for marketing. There have been cases of fraud and hacking in the past. Therefore, ensuring security at many levels has become very important.

Health 2.0 challenges are tough but there are many assurances that they will all be overcome. With IOM-NAE working to improve Health 2.0 there is hope for a lot of improvement for health care on social media.
